Antiquities of Scottish Music
Arranged for the Flute and Whistle (CD)

This collection of carefully selected literature represents gems of traditional Scottish music. A wide variety of jigs, reels, hornpipes, strathspeys, airs and ballads are arranged for flute and whistle. All pieces are written in the keys of D, G or A (with related modalities) to accomodate the range of fingerings available for simple system flutes, whistles and Boehm-style concert flutes. Both an ornamented and unornamented version of each tune is included in the flute score along with guitar chords. The collection is comprised of eleven performance sets with piano accompaniments. Whistlers or flutists will find the addition of guitar chords an enriching backdrop for practice or performance.

An accompanimental CD for the Antiquities of Scottish Music book is now available. The CD contains a performance on either flute or tin whistle of all eleven ornamented sets in the book. Piano accompaniment tracks are also included for all eleven sets. A great way to enjoy Scottish tunes and learn traditional performance practice at the same time!

Tin Whistle (Instrument)
Pictured below is a solid brass instrument with durable red plastic mouthpiece. The whistle is pitched in D, i.e. when all of the tone-holes are covered the note D will sound. Fingerings closely resemble those of the flute. This instrument is also suitable for the mature player.
