The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

God is no more satisfied with this earth than we are; Jesus’ miracles offer a hint of what God intends to do about it.

Philip Yancey, The Jesus I Never Knew

First we are seen; only then can we see.

First we must realize that we are dead; only then can we be ready to rise to new life.

First we must die and be undone;

then we are raised.

First we must un-know and then we will know.

Sundays and Seasons

Luther Quote of the Day

So God acts with all the visible blessings of this life He has given us.  He gave all in order to teach us to trust in Him; but he also takes everything back, at least in death, in order to test this trust.

Today at Muhlenberg

Food Pantry Donations Today & Lay Communion Ministers Serving our Shut-ins

Today we receive non-perishable food donations for area food pantries.  Immediately after the Gospel reading, Pastor Vought will invite the children to help collect the food and place it in front of the altar table.

Lay Communion Ministers will be blessed and sent forth at both services.

New Pictorial Directory

It Won’t Be Complete Without You!

Smile, Jesus Loves you and your Muhlenberg family wants you in pictures!  It’s time to sign up for a photography time to get your portraits in our new pictorial directory coming out in early January 2007.  Here are our photography dates this summer:  Thursday, July 20; Friday, July 21; Saturday, July 22; and Tuesday, July 25.  Don’t panic:  if you’ll be away on vacation those dates, we’ll have at least two days of photography in September (8th and 9th), but if possible, please try for one of the July dates and time spots.  On the week days, times start at 3 pm and run late into the evening and on Saturday, times are 10 am – 5 pm.  By having summer dates, we hope that families with college students or children who will be gone in the fall will find they can have the whole family here for a family photo.

Sign up sheets will be available starting TODAY, July 2 after church services or posted on the bulletin boards.  You may also call Stephanie Hudy (896-4725), John Mulder (289-6290), or Tim Peifer (438-9167) for more information or a time spot.

Each family unit photographed will receive a directory and a free 8 x 10 (your choice from the proofs).  Naturally, you will have an opportunity to order additional prints or poses, but are under no obligation to buy anything!  We would just appreciate having as many families as possible to participate so our directory can be as complete as possible.

It won’t be complete without you!

Dear Muhlenberg Lutheran Church,

Thank you very much for the quilt, mug, personalized bible, and card.  It was very thoughtful and generous of everyone.  I look forward to using all of these items at the University of Virginia next year!  Thanks again!  Warmly,

Mowing Season

If you can help with mowing and tending of grounds this season, please sign up on the bulletin board by the stairs as you exit the church.

Lutherans & The DaVinci Code

Quite a few parishioners have asked us lately about the book and the movie The DaVinci Code, and the attention it has been receiving in the press and various churches.  It may be helpful to remember that the book and the movie is Fiction, it’s a story and therefore has no basis in fact.  Nevertheless, many are still curious about what the book and movie has to say about Jesus.  For more information and helpful perspectives on the movie, we invite you to read some recent articles in The Lutheran magazine and on the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s website:

Thank You

Dear Friends,

Thank you so very much for your gracious hospitality in staying overnight on June 23rd as we travelled to our Mission Trip site. We are especially grateful for the wonderful dinner you served us on Friday evening and the games we enjoyed with members of Muhlenberg's youth group. Special thanks go to Susan Conaty-Buck, Martha Dovel, Karen Thomsen and Pastor Joe and Debra.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Kurt Strause and Members of Emmanuel Lutheran Youth Group,

Lancaster, Pa.
