The Fifth
Sunday after Pentecost
Selected
Readings
The fact is, whether it is Ezekiel, Paul, Jesus, or us, when God wants
to use our voice, it will almost always be to confront some aspect of the dominant
culture.
Kirk Kubicek
Jesus does not work alone. He calls
ordinary folk to share in his work. Their only qualification is they are chosen. You are all ministers.
William
Willimon
Luther Quote of the Day
Holy Scripture does not deal at length with gross
sinners, publicans and harlots; for their sins the heathen too can judge. But it is concerned with those sinners who
in the eyes of the world have an appearance and label of honesty and integrity.
Today at Muhlenberg
ELCA National
Youth Gathering
Muhlenberg is sending 16
youth and 3 adults to the “Gathering” that is being held in San Antonio,
Texas. This should be a time of
fellowship and faith growth for our youth, and we thank everyone who helped to
make this trip possible.
We ask the congregation to keep all of us who are attending the
event in your prayers, for our safety and for our growth in faith as we
experience the power of the Spirit with other youth from across the USA.
Those attending the event are: Jessy Amato, Lyndy Amato, Jessica Buck, Ellen Clough, Mya Dove, Scott
Dovel, Jenny Furr, Katrina Hudy, Kevin Matthias, Chris May, Amy Morrison,
Elizabeth Nash, Elaine Perrotto, Sarah Perrotto, Jimmie Ritchie, Zach Ritchie,
and the following adult chaperones: Chuck
May, Diane Nash and Diane Bayer.

New
Pictorial Directory
It Won’t Be
Complete Without You!
Smile, Jesus Loves you and
your Muhlenberg family wants you in pictures!
It’s time to sign up for a photography time to get your portraits in our
new pictorial directory coming out in early January 2007. Here are our photography dates this summer:
Thursday, July 20; Friday, July 21; Saturday, July 22; and Tuesday, July
25. Don’t panic: if you’ll be away on vacation those dates,
we’ll have at least two days of photography in September (8th and 9th),
but if possible, please try for one of the July dates and time spots. On the week days, times start at 3 pm and
run late into the evening and on Saturday, times are 10 am – 5 pm. By having summer dates, we hope that
families with college students or children who will be gone in the fall will
find they can have the whole family here for a family photo.
Sign up sheets are
available TODAY, after church services TODAY and posted on the bulletin boards. You may also call John Mulder (289-6290), or
Tim Peifer (438-9167) for more information or a time spot.
Each family unit photographed will receive
a directory and a free 8 x 10 (your choice from the proofs). Naturally, you will have an opportunity to
order additional prints or poses, but are under no obligation to buy
anything! We would just appreciate
having as many families as possible to participate so our directory can be as
complete as possible.
It won’t be complete without you!

Dear Muhlenberg Lutheran Church,
Thank you so much for the graduation gifts. The leather bound bible was really
nice. Thank you also to the quilting
ladies for the wonderful quilt. It will
definitely keep me warm this winter at UVA!

Lutherans &
The DaVinci Code
Quite a few parishioners
have asked us lately about the book and the movie The DaVinci Code, and the attention it has been receiving in the
press and various churches. It may be
helpful to remember that the book and the movie is Fiction, it’s a story and
therefore has no basis in fact.
Nevertheless, many are still curious about what the book and movie has
to say about Jesus. For more
information and helpful perspectives on the movie, we invite you to read some
recent articles in The Lutheran
magazine and on the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s website:
http://www.elca.org/communication/culture/
Pr. Joe and Pr. Dave
Thank You
Thank you to the members for
their cards, prayers and phone calls during my recent surgery. Also, thanks to Pastor Joe and those who
visited me at the hospital. Thanks
again,
