The Ninth
Sunday after Pentecost
Selected
Readings
Man does not live by bread alone, but he also does not live long
without it. To eat is to acknowledge
our dependence—both on food and on each other. It also reminds us of other kinds of emptiness that not even the
Blue Plate Special can touch.
Frederick Buechner, Wishful
Thinking
A glutton is one who raids the icebox
for a cure for spiritual malnutrition.

Luther Quote of the Day
The partaking of this bread is nothing but faith in Christ our Lord,
that he is, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:30, “made our wisdom from God, our
righteousness, sanctification and redemption.”
He who eats of this food lives forever.

Today at Muhlenberg
Food
Pantry Donations Today & Lay Communion Ministers Serving our Shut-ins
Today we receive
non-perishable food donations for area food pantries. Immediately after the Gospel reading, Pastor Vought will invite
the children to help collect the food and place it in front of the altar table.
Lay Communion Ministers will be blessed and sent forth at both services.
Guest
Organist Today
We wish to thank Cory Leckrone for serving as our
organist this morning. Cory, one of our
Children’s Choir Co-Directors, is serving as organist for our morning services
and as musical director for our Sunday Evening Service in the absence of our
Minister of Music who is on vacation.
We appreciate her contribution to our worship services.

Have you ever wanted to
study the bible but been intimated or not sure how to begin? “Joy of Living” is a weekly lesson that you
prepare at home, taking approx. 15 minutes/day.
Meets at Muhlenberg on Thursdays, 9:30
a.m. mid-September – May. This
year, we’ll be studying the book of Luke.
“Joy
of Living” will not only deepen your relationship with Christ, but also your
relationship with your fellow sisters in Christ that participate in the bible
study. For more information, speak with
Diane Bayer or Linda Barthmus (434-0209).
Class size is limited, so sign up now on the bulletin board!
Attention Adult Sunday School
Teachers:
If
you haven’t picked up postcards yet, they are on the table in the hallway outside
the Christian Formation office to mail to your class roster from last year and
any new members you think may be interested in your class. If you have questions, please contact Diane
Bayer.
Thank
You
Below is a thank you note
from Creator Lutheran Church of Tacoma, Washington. They had groups who spent the night in the MAC on June 30 and
again on July 14.
Thank you so much for
allowing us to use your beautiful building.
We felt like we were staying at the Ritz. After a week of hard work in the mountains, the shower felt
wonderful!! Both of our youth groups
had an amazing mission experience.

Thanks to J Crew members for
my cross.
