The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

Some people feel that they alone are responsible for their success, that their intelligence and abilities brought it about.   This is the challenge of wealth, and a serious challenge it is: to not be deceived your own ego.   “You must remember that it is God who gives you the power to become prosperous.”  (Deuteronomy 8:8)   Without this recognition, money becomes the ultimate symbol of the selfish ego, our contemporary golden idol.

Rabbi Manachem Schneerson

When Christ calls a man

he bids him come and die!

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Luther Quote of the Day

I have held many things in my hands,

and I have lost them all;

but whatever I have placed

in God's hands, that I still possess.

The weekly deadline for The Chimes

is 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

Gathering Names of Saints

Our collection of the names of Muhlenberg saints is growing, but not finished yet.  Today you have another opportunity to commemorate an individual who has helped you in your spiritual growth.

     In the back of the church is a basket of red and white paper links.  Write the name(s) of saint(s) and place them in the basket provided.  The links will be connected to larger crosses as a symbol of how our saints connect us to our faith.  They will be displayed in the nave beginning on All Saints Sunday and remain up until the first Sunday in Advent.

Thank You

I would like to express my gratitude to the pastors, our shepherds, and the congregation for the prayers and concern shown to us during Carlos’ illness and recent passing.  Carlos was a “stickler” for going to church — and always loved coming to Muhlenberg when not attending his own church.  Thanks and God’s blessings to all of you.
