The Sixth Sunday
after Epiphany
Selected
People tended to see
suffering as signs of God's displeasure.
Likewise, prosperity as a sign of God's favor. But Jesus turns it all around. Poverty is no barrier to God. Indeed, often the poor are most open to
trusting God. And prosperity is no sign
of divine favor either, but a very strong temptation to place trust in it
rather than God.
Bass Mitchell
Jesus is fulfilling his role as prophet. He is announcing how he intends to live and
predicting how he expects to be heard and received.

Luther Quote of the Day
He is the carpenter, and we are the
wood. His handiwork is the holy cross,
which is bound to follow upon the teaching of the Gospel. He plies His tools and works on us…This work
goes on till death.
