The Second Sunday in Lent

Selected Readings

Redemption was not worked out in temple worship.  It was worked out in ordinary life among the sinful, sick, maimed, stupid and self-interested. It was accomplished through sharing the suffering and injustice of life.

Evelyn Underhill

Those who live with open eyes and ears will soon learn how much they need the assistance of God’s Word and sacraments in their struggle against sin, death and the devil.

Eric Gritsch

Luther Quote of the Day

You must look at death while you are alive and see sin in the light of grace and hell in the light of heaven, permitting nothing to divert you from this view.

This notice is just a reminder to everyone to tune in to the WSVA AM 550 Radio or WHSV Television stations to monitor church closings on Sunday mornings.  We almost never close.  However, if we decide to cancel the 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. worship services, Sunday School will also be cancelled for that morning.  Every attempt will be made to hold the 11:00 a.m. service but it may be cancelled if conditions are too severe.  If the 11:00 a.m. service is cancelled, the 6:30 p.m. service will also be cancelled.
