The Fourth Sunday in Lent

Selected Readings

The Pharisees see themselves as the true pillars of the house of Israel.  In the midst of their complaint is the Shepherd’s happy cry, “Rejoice with me!”  Christ calls on the Pharisees to fill their hearts with the joy of welcoming a returning sinner into their fellowship.

Kenneth Bailey, The Cross and the Prodigal

All that God looks for from us is the slightest opening and he forgives a multitude of sins.

St.  John Chrysostom

Luther Quote of the Day

Those who think they are holy and pious often look at their life and puff themselves up and cannot come to the point of being gracious to sinners….So God comes and takes a hand in the matter and lets the proud spirits fall.
