Sunday of the Passion/Palm Sunday

Selected Readings

The one who need not have been like us, yet chose to be so, did not flee.   He entered the garden of Gethsemane to rectify the garden of Eden.  Not clinging to the robes of divinity he took the towel to wash our feet.   And we, with Peter, might murmur, “not just our feet, Lord, but our whole being, our pains and terrors, our aging and fading, our agonies and death.”

John Kavanaugh

There is not much we can do with the memories which make up this liturgy and this coming week.  Praying might be nothing more than staying “awake” to what is being done and remembered.    We know there will be a resurrection, but we know also that we are all invited to join this Holy Week parade and passion.

Larry Gillick

Luther Quote of the Day

When you are in spiritual trouble say, “I did not choose and prepare this cross for myself.   I will let God take care of this matter and fight it through.   Long ago He predicted such suffering for me and promised me His divine and gracious help.”

Today at Muhlenberg

Today our services begin with the blessing of palms, the reading of the processional Gospel and the procession with palms.

At 8:00 and 9:30, this will take place on our front lawn.  Prior to the 11:00 service, we meet on the front lawn at 10:30 and proceed to Court Square where downtown churches gather for this ceremony.

We then process back to the church which becomes our Jerusalem as the triumphal entry marks the beginning of Holy Week.
