The Resurrection of Our Lord / Easter Day

Selected Readings

Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won't stay there.

 ~Clarence W. Hall

Easter is not a time for groping through dusty, musty tomes or tombs to disprove spontaneous generation or even to prove life eternal.  It is a day to fan the ashes of dead hope, a day to banish doubts and seek the slopes where the sun is rising, to revel in the faith which transports us out of ourselves and the dead past into the vast and inviting unknown.

 ~Author unknown,

as quoted in the Lewiston Tribune

Luther Quote of the Day

Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in spring-time.

Easter Breakfast

“Break the Fast” with us today as our JCrew youth and parents host a wonderful Easter breakfast of casseroles, bagels, Danish, fruit salad and Easter eggs.   We’ll serve from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the MAC.  Free-will donations will be accepted to benefit the youth programs.

Today at Muhlenberg

Easter and its Season

Easter is understood as the crown of the whole year, the queen of feasts, and as such it lasts for a week of weeks (seven weeks).

Easter Day is celebrated with gold paraments to give it special prominence.  The paschal candle, lit anew at the Great Vigil of Easter, burns near the altar throughout the season as a sign of the presence of the risen Christ.  Lilies, symbols of the resurrection, surround us.  Our liturgy is enhanced with processions, the return of the “Alleluia,” and the joyful music of the “Now the Feast and Celebration” setting of Marty Haugen with additional instrumental accompaniment.

Join us on each of the Sundays of Easter as we celebrate the resurrection, the post-resurrection appearances, Christ’s mission to the disciples, his Ascension, and the promise of the sending of the Holy Spirit.
