The Holy Trinity

Selected Readings

Tell me how it is that in this room there are three candles and but one light, and I will explain to you the mode of the divine existence.

John Wesley

Faith is: “believing,”

“believing in” and “believing into.”

Thomas Aquinas

Luther Quote of the Day

This confession of faith we did not make or invent, neither did the fathers of the Church before us, but as the bee gathers the honey from many a beautiful and delicate flower, so this creed has been collected.

Today at Muhlenberg

Holy Trinity,

Time After Pentecost,

New Worship Liturgy

The conclusion of the season of Easter and the excitement of the Day of Pentecost are quickly replaced with today’s feast dedicated to a doctrine of the church, the festival of the Holy Trinity.  And then we mark the Sundays after Pentecost which aren’t really a liturgical season offering their own particular emphasis or imagery.  These Sundays mark our ordered progress though the scriptures, which gives them a character all their own.  It is the longest period of time in which we see green vestments, symbolizing growth.

To contrast with the Festival half of the church year, it is an appropriate time of year to keep it a bit simpler.  For our musical setting of the liturgy for the first part of the season, and in order to renew your acquaintance with some of the material in our new worship book, we have chosen songs that appeared in the proposed as well as the new book.

As we take breaks, vacations and travel during the summer, let us too find excitement in traveling with the Church through the Gospel and its many encounters along the way.
