Mary Magdalene, Apostle

Selected Readings

A wonder that in such sore distress she was even able to weep. She stood there because she loves, she wept because she mourned.

Meister Eckhardt

It is totally beyond the comprehension of the angels that Mary would be crying over an empty tomb. They just can’t comprehend being outside of God’s will. Once you have walked in the Lord, it amazes you when you look back on what you used to call living. You sit in wonder at what you used to settle on as an acceptable way to live.

Jerry Goebel

Luther Quote of the Day

It is for Christ's sake that we believe in the Scriptures, but it is not for the Scriptures' sake that we believe in Christ.

Today at Muhlenberg

Mary Magdalene, Apostle

Mary of Magdala has been affectionately called “the apostle to the apostles” because she was sent on Easter to bring them good news from Jesus’ open tomb.  Today we remember her with thanksgiving and recall other women of faith who by their actions and words gave witness to God’s powerful new life.

Memorial Service Today

We deeply mourn the death of our beloved brother and sister in Christ, Gary and Martha Dovel.  Our prayers continue daily with Scott who remains hospitalized.

There will be a memorial service today to give thanks for Gary and Martha’s lives and entrust them to the love of God:

Thank You

Bingo Raises $6,800

A big thank you to everyone who helped sponsor baskets, tools, ads, donated food or money toward food, or baked pies.  Thanks to those who helped work and came out to play for the bingo fundraiser for Second Home.  We hope you had a good time and will come back again next year.

There were about 125 people playing bingo and eating the good food prepared by the Kitchen Committee.  The total raised from the event was $6,800.  We had 100% of our expenses donated; therefore, the entire $6,800 will go to Second Home for the children.  It is a privilege to be a part of such a loving and sharing church family and community.  May God bless each and every one of you.

New Muhlenberg Ministry

Hospitality Coordinator

On average, about twice a month the need arises for a meal to be provided for a meeting at church.  These meetings typically require someone to arrange for food for a small group and then clean up.  Thanks to Kristee Trumbo for agreeing to lead this ministry.  If Kristee calls for help, please try to say “YES!” when possible.  Thanks!

Stephanie Hudy and Linda Morrison continue to coordinate funeral meals and receptions. We thank them for their dedication to this important ministry. If you want to be included in this ministry, please contact Stephanie (896-4725) or Linda (433-5286).

Financial News

I want to apologize for the incorrect date on some of the quarterly statements that were mailed this week.  I had a power glitch part way through printing and when I resumed printing, I inadvertently clicked on 6/16 instead of 6/30.  If you would like a corrected statement, please call me at 434-5258.  Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
