The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

You cannot pray the Lord's Prayer and even once say "I."   You cannot pray the Lord's Prayer and even once say "My."   Nor can you pray the Lord's Prayer and not pray for one another, and when you ask for daily bread, you must include your brother.   For others are included ... in each and every plea, from the beginning to the end of it, it does not once say "Me."

Poetry from the Omaha School for Boys

God is always there first, and therefore our praying is always only an answer to this simple fact.

Helmut Thielicke

Luther Quote of the Day

“Thy Kingdom come”

What does this mean?  God’s Kingdom will come without our praying, but we ask that it may come to us.

Today at Muhlenberg

Thanks to Benjamin Heizer,

Interim Organist

We give thanks to Benjamin Heizer, for playing the organ at all morning liturgies during the month of July.  Ben has blessed us with his talent as Interim Organist.  We wish him well in his pursuits at Bridgewater College and on his family farm in Middlebrook where they raise shorthorn cattle and American Saddlebred show horses.  Thanks and best wishes, Ben!

Dovel Update

Scott is out of Intensive Care and is currently at UVA Hospital.  In the coming days he will be transferred to Health South in Charlottesville for rehabilitation.  Visitors to the hospital and rehab are restricted at this time.  The family asks that any gifts in memory of Gary and Martha for Scott’s Medical and/or Tuition Support be forwarded to the family address at: 3562 Longbow Road  Keezletown, VA 22832  (The Post Office will hold the mail).  Members wishing to give gifts to Muhlenberg in memory and honor of Gary and Martha may do so by writing a check to Muhlenberg Lutheran Church and include Gary and Martha Dovel in the memo line.

Welcome Jean Claude and Alice from Rwanda!

Jean Pierre’s brother Jean Claude, and sister Alice have arrived as Refugees from Rwanda and are being sponsored by Jean Pierre and Refugee Resettlement here at Muhlenberg.  As we reached out in friendship and hospitality to Jean Pierre when he was a newcomer, please greet Jean Claude and Alice warmly when you meet them and let them know you are glad they are here.   If you would like to work more directly to help them, contact Frank Lambert and Kathy Alexander with our Global Mission Committee for more information.

Thank You

Thank YOU to Muhlenberg

Dear family of God at Muhlenberg,

We would like to thank all of you for your expressions of compassion and sympathy toward the Dovel Family and your prayerful support of us during last week’s difficult tragedy.  We are grateful to all who offered help during the Funeral:  Don Smith for coming in from vacation; choirs and soloists who sang God’s praise;  Worship Assistants and Altar Guild; Communion Stewards;  A whole Army of Ushers, those who set up the MAC, special servants who provided the simul-cast video and audio in the MAC;  Funeral Reception and Kitchen Committee, and those who helped park cars.   The way we all come together at such times to grieve and mourn, give thanks for good memories, commend our loved ones to God’s care and affirm life is a blessing and gift we do not take for granted!

Pr. Joe+ and Pr. Dave+

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play here at Muhlenberg.  It was a wonderful experience for a young studying organist.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with all of you!

Thanks,

Benjamin L. Heizer

Interim Organist

YES, MUHLENBERG HAS SUMMER SUNDAY

SCHOOL!!!

If you haven’t joined a class yet it is never too late!!!

Children 3 years old - 4th grade start in the Nave with an opening and then go to the Alpha Teens room in the MAC to learn through Bible stories and crafts.  The class is led by various members of Muhlenberg.

Grades 5-8 meet in the MAC to work on a faith based project with Mark Byerly.

Senior high grades 9-12 meet in the JCREW room to learn through Bible discussions/activities with Karen Thomsen.

The adult class meets in the Nielsen Room to read and discuss the book, “Our Lives Are Not Our Own, Saying ‘Yes’ to God”.  Come by Diane’s office and get a copy of the book.

Thank You

Muhlenberg Members,

Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt for graduation and for the graduation cards.  Thank you also for the Christian support and encouragement I received over the years as a baptized and confirmed member of this wonderful and caring congregation.  God bless all of you.

Rion Looney

THANKS to our JCREW

Youth and Chaperones

We are thankful for the experience our JCREW youth and chaperones had this past week at Tri-Cities Workcamp, reaching out to those in need.  We are very proud of our youth and their hard work.  Word reached Diane’s office that our JCREW youth were some of the hardest workers, serving and working without complaint, throughout the week. May God bless you all for a job well done “Thou good and Faithful Servants.”
