The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

Death's awful mystery comes upon us suddenly, and soul and body are violently severed by the will of God.   What shall we do at that hour if we have not thought of it beforehand, if we have not been instructed concerning this eventuality and find ourselves unprepared?

The Desert Fathers

Do not give your heart to that

which cannot satisfy your heart.

Abba Poemen, 5th century

Luther Quote of the Day

A Christian lives on in hope.  He eats, drinks, works does what he has been commanded to do.  He also suffers whatever suffering is placed on him.  For his ears hang on the voice and Word of his Shepherd, and he schools himself not to judge by what he experiences and feels but by what the voice and the Word says.

The weekly deadline for The Chimes

is 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

Men’s Breakfast/Bible Study

Why not plan to be part of the Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study group that meets the 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at the Thomas House Restaurant in Dayton.  Our next breakfast is on August 18th.  The food is good and the fellowship is great.  It is a wonderful opportunity to meet and get to know men from the other worship services and to read, discuss and learn about the gospels.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact John Mulder at 289-6290, Diane Bayer, or speak to one of the Pastors.

God is the ultimate Emergency Manager.  He provided an ark for Noah and his family.  Rahab was there for the two spies.  Boaz was there to help feed Naomi and Ruth.  Come find ways that you can be prepared for a man made or natural emergency on:
