The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

The angry synagogue leader doesn't approach Jesus with his complaint, but addresses the crowd.   It is called "triangling."  Those who might be upset with someone in church, tell all of their friends (whom they think represent "everybody in the congregation"), rather than talking with the person with whom they have the complaint to seek constructive ways of dealing with the perceived problem.

Brian Stoffregen

The Jewish leader pictured God as a rule-maker, sinners as rule-breakers, and the upright as rule-keepers. God is a life-giver.

Mickey Anders

Luther Quote of the Day

The chief sin is the desire to play God.  Such a person needs no forgiveness.  But it is the work of God to forgive sin, to make just and to save.
