The Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

Courtesy is the one passport that will be accepted without question in every land, in every office, in every home, in every heart in the world.  For nothing commends itself so well as kindness; and courtesy is kindness.

George Powers

The primary gift the Christian community offers, past and present, is community and hospitality.

Ann Smith

Luther Quote of the Day

Grace is feely given to the most undeserving and unworthy and is not obtained by any strenuous efforts, endeavors, or works, either small or great, not even by the efforts of the best and most honorable men who have sought and followed righteousness with a burning zeal.

There is No Sunday School TODAY!

Today at Muhlenberg

Food Pantry Donations Today & Lay Communion Ministers Serving our Shut-ins

Today we receive non-perishable food donations for area food pantries.

Immediately after the Gospel reading, Pastor Vought will invite the children to help collect the food and place it in front of the altar table.

Lay Communion Ministers will be blessed and sent forth this morning.

“Walking Together by Faith”

A daytime retreat will be held on SATURDAY, September 15 at Bridgewater College.  (Directions and details will be mailed this week.)

Lost & Found from

Church Picnic

We found an I-Pod (or maybe just a small radio—we’re not quite as “hip” as some of you younsters!) and a green soft-sided cooler with ice packs in it. If you lost these items, contact Dana Cornett at 828-2788.

Lutheran-Presbyterian

Campus Ministry

The van is running for the 11:00 am service (and will run throughout the school year). Students will receive an email about when and where pick-ups occur each Sunday. Church members: If you are willing to periodically drive the van before or after the 11am service, Bob Kolodinsky would love to hear from you at 289-3523.

Additional Services

Join us for worship on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for “A Service of Worship and Praise with Holy Communion.”

Our Wednesday noon Eucharist is a great way to add a boost your week!

WAM RETURNS!

“Wednesdays at Muhlenberg!”

New Start Time:  6:00 PM*

Join your Church family each Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. beginning September 12 for a community meal, catered by the Muhlenberg Kitchen Committee at a price you can’t beat: Adults - $3.00, Children 12 and under - FREE.  Kitchen staff and servers eat free, too.

Then after dinner, join us for Bible Study, youth and music opportunities.  (see “Weekly Calendar” for scheduling details).

Sign up on the hallway bulletin board or call Janet Simmons at 434-5258 by Tuesday evening so we can plan for enough food.

**Remember, you don’t have to attend one of the activities to join us for dinner.**

*Our new start time allows children from Second Home to be picked up.  If you arrive early for WAM, please park on the west side of the lot (closest to Blakemore Flowers), leaving the parking spaces closest to the MAC entrance available for parents picking up their children.

CROP Walk 2007

A CROP Walk is scheduled for the Harrisonburg area on Sunday, September 30, 2:30 p.m. This walk will raise money and awareness about Hunger in our area and the World.  Patchwork Pantry will receive 25% of the money raised.  Please mark your calendar and plan to take part in the Walk, remembering Jesus’ words “As you do it unto the least of these, you do it unto me”.
