The Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

A pastor posed this question during a children’s sermon, “Would you go after the one lost sheep or stay with the ninety-nine?” One boy quickly responded, “I'd go after the one lost sheep, but I'd take the other ninety-nine with me.”

Paul Neuchterlein

These two parables tell us that what governs God's behavior is not our sins.  It's not our problems.  It's his need to find us.  These parables go by the need of the finder to find, not about the need of the lost to be found…The great thing is that the universe is driven by the need of the finder to find all of us in our lost-ness.

Robert Farrar Capon

Luther Quote of the Day

For this temptation is clear, we want a hand in the stew; we want to do so much and to serve God in such a way that He must recognize us, must forgive our sins and be gracious to us because of our achievements.  And yet this cannot be.    Either it is Christ or it is my own doing.

Today at Muhlenberg

Liturgy for

Second Half of Pentecost

This season of the year is one that witnesses an ingathering of energies with season beginnings in many areas of community and congregational life. The harvest theme, with its dual points of change and continuity are reflected in our liturgy. Marty Haugen’s Creation Mass has become well-loved by this congregation and is prominent in the season’s liturgy. In addition, some portions of the liturgy will vary through the end of the season.

Welcome New Members

Please welcome our brothers and sisters in Christ who join the family of God at Muhlenberg by affirming their baptism with us today at the 11 o’clock worship service.  We give thanks to God for their presence in our fellowship and pray that together we will build up this Body of Christ and serve the Lord!  Look for a complete listing of new members in next week’s issue of The Chimes.

Come meet our newest members!  Join us for a luncheon in the MAC following the 11:00 service.

Confirmation Blessing

At the 11:00 liturgy today, we will bless all 7th and 8th grade confirmands, their parents, their mentors and our congregation, as we support the faith journey of these young people.
