The Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost

Selected Readings

How often do we plod along before we recognize that something significant, maybe even earthshaking, has taken place in our lives?  Perhaps part of receiving a miracle lies in the ability to recognize one when it occurs.

Safiyah Fosua

Pride slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which thanksgiving naturally grows.   A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves.

Henry Ward Beecher

Luther Quote of the Day

Praising God and being thankful

is the highest form of worship

both here on earth and in eternity.

Service for Lauston Funkhouser

Muhlenberg member Lauston Funkhouser died on Thursday, October 11.  A funeral service today at 1:00 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home, with a graveside service following at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Today at Muhlenberg

Thanksgiving for Service

We give thanks for the faithful service of Saul Rodriguez this morning at the 11:00 liturgy.  Saul has served us as Sunday evening worship leader and been a rich blessing for evening worshippers.

Diamond Jubilee Dinner

There will be a celebration luncheon for our members 75 years+ and their spouse and/or guest TODAY at 12:15 p.m.

Gathering Names of Saints

For the next two Sundays, we will gather names of the saints—persons living or deceased—who have been important to you in your life of faith.  In the back of the church is a basket of red and white links and marking pens.  We invite you to take a link and write on it the name of an individual who has helped you in your spiritual growth.  You may take as many links as you like.  The links will be displayed in the nave beginning on All Saints Sunday and remain up until the first Sunday in Advent.  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to observe how our Saints link us together in faith.

New Member Classes

“Walking Together by Faith”

New Member Inquiry Classes

Begin NEXT SUNDAY, October 21

We invite visitors and friends to journey with us as we explore what it means to be a Christian, a Lutheran, a follower of Jesus and a member of the Muhlenberg family.  We will meet after worship at 12:15 p.m. for lunch and conversation on Sundays, October 21 and 28.  A daytime retreat will be held on Saturday, November 3.  New Members will be received on All Saints Sunday, November 4, and there will be a new member luncheon that day as well.  Please sign up on the Hallway Bulletin Board.  Call Pastor Dave or Pastor Joe for more information at 434-3496.

Thank You Notes
