The Fourth Sunday in Advent

Selected Readings

God hath long contended with a stubborn world, and thrown down many a blessing upon them; and when all his other gifts could not prevail, he at last made a gift of himself.

Henry Scougal

Advent is being ready for the saving one who will come when we cannot save ourselves.

Walter Brueggemann

Luther Quote of the Day

Reason may be offended, but whoever expects to be redeemed and saved from their sins and the power of death must believe that Christ is true God, through whom the world was made, also true man, born of Mary.

See the December Red Door for details.

Simply Giving

If you are changing your pledge and participate in the Simply Giving Program, please complete a Simply Giving form as soon as possible for it to take effect by January 1, 2008.  (Forms are available in the Narthex.)

Inclement Weather Policy

Remember to everyone to tune in to the WSVA AM 550 Radio or WHSV Television stations to monitor church closings on Sunday mornings.  We almost never close.  However, if we decide to cancel the 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. worship services, Sunday School will also be cancelled for that morning.  Every attempt will be made to hold the 11:00 a.m. service but it may be cancelled if conditions are too severe.  If the 11:00 a.m. service is cancelled, the 6:30 p.m. service will also be cancelled.

Returning Thanks News

Consecration Sunday Thanks

Thank you Tassie Pippert for making Consecration Sunday’s Celebration such a “tastee” delight. Your artful presentation of the food really made it a joy to go from table to table.  Thank you JCrew for serving the hot hors d’oeurves and helping Tassie with keeping the tables supplied.  Thanks to all who participated in making pledges for our ministries.  For those who were unable to attend Consecration Sunday and would like to make your pledge for the ministries there are cards in the Hymnal racks.
